WELCOME STATEMENT Hello and welcome. On behalf of our church family, I want to personally invite you to view our website. In it you will find information , history and background on our church, Columbia Lakewood Community Church. As you read about our history, worship life and Christian education program, I think you will find that we are a warm, welcoming, joyful church. As detailed as our website is, I really feel the best way to experience our church is by a Sunday morning visit. So, after your peruse the website, please consult the directions to our church, and come out and join us for worship and fellowship some Sunday morning. I pray you will find our website and the enclosed information positive and welcoming as we seek to attract new visitors to our church. Peace be with you. Pastor Jeffrey L. Barker
MISSION STATEMENT We are an enthusiastic body of believers in Jesus Christ related to the Church of Brethren and the United Church of Christ. We are a welcoming, supportive, multi-racial, multi-generational, forward looking congregation with a Bible based commitment of spreading the Good News of Christ to the wider community.
WE ARE SELF GOVERNED All churches in both our denominations (United Church of Christ and Church of The Brethren) function by congregational, or self, rule. This means that we are basically an independent church; with our own Constitution and By-laws, rather than being governed by the head offices of our denominations. We have an Executive Board which, together with our Pastor, oversees the operation of our church. The Executive Board is comprised of nine people elected from the membership by the membership. Three persons are elected to the Board each year and they serve for three years. This system gives the Board stability and change at the same time (three new and six continuing members each year). It also allows all members the opportunity to serve. The Constitution and By-laws provide the framework within which the Executive Board operates. It clearly defines the Board's responsibilities and identifies what matters must be taken to the entire congregation for a decision. We believe this system provides for proper operation of our church in both religious and business matters.
